Iced Lemon Tea and Iced Latte

📍Malang

Refreshing and tangy (segar banget!). Also ordered a side of tahu walik (from Banyuwangi, East Java), which consists of inverted tofu skin, stuffed with meat and tapioca paste and deep fried.

Cwie Mie

📍Malang

Does not use kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) hence is characterised by its' savoury flavour. Stir-fried egg noodles topped with minced chicken, pangsit goreng (fried wonton), and vegetables (either lettuce, acar (pickles), or choy sum).

Nasi Liwet

📍Malang

White rice cooked in aromatic coconut milk, opor ayam (chicken cooked in coconut milk), telur pindang (braised boiled eggs), telur areh (steamed egg in coconut milk), tumis labu siam (stir-fried chayote), and sambal.

Bibimguksu 비빔국수

📍Malang

Sweet, spicy and tangy Korean cold noodles in a spicy gochujang based sauce with a soft boiled egg, cucumber, corn, kimchi, seaweed, and beef.

Nasi Campur

📍Malang

In the truest sense of the name, white rice with samples of an assortment of side dishes. Urap sayur (blanched spinach with spiced and toasted coconut flakes), sayur asem (vegetables cooked in tamarind broth), rawon daging sapi (beef cooked in aromatic broth), and ikan pepes (aromatic fish steamed in banana leaves)

Ikan (Gurame) Bakar

📍Malang

Gurame which has been marinated and wrapped in banana leaves, then grilled over charcoal. Vegetable sides include tumis tauge (bean sprouts), tumis pucuk labu (pumpkin leaves), and tumis kol (cabbage).

Nasi Pecel

📍Malang

Blanched spinach, long beans, bean sprouts, and cassava leaves with a sweet and rich peanut sauce, served with grilled tempeh and white rice.

Iga Bakar Madu

📍Malang

Grilled honey beef ribs with urap sayur, lalap (raw vegetables), white rice and sambal.

Bebek Asap

📍Jakarta

Smoked duck with lawar daun singkong (spiced cassava leaves), lalap, sambal ijo (green chili sauce) and white rice.

Bihun Ayam

📍Jakarta

Bee hoon (vermicelli noodles) with minced mushrooms, shredded chicken, spring onion, and choy sum. Dry version with a side of chicken broth.

Bún Gà Nướng

📍Jakarta

Vietnamese vermicelli noodle salad with grilled lemongrass chicken, herbs (mint, basil, coriander), cucumber, pickled carrots and a healthy amount of nước chấm (fish sauce).

Bibimbap 비빔밥

📍Jakarta

Korean mixed rice with fried egg, sliced beef, cucumber, carrot, bean sprout, cabbage and spinach with gochujang sauce.

Nasi Bakar Benoa

📍Jakarta

Grilled rice in banana leaves with lalap, sate lilit (Balinese minced chicken skewers), jagung balado (spicy sambal corn), and ayam pelalah (shredded sambal chicken).

Nanas (pineapple), semangka (watermelon), pepaya (papaya), and melon ijo (honeydew melon).

Nasi Capcay

Nasi Ayam Hainan

Fragrant Hainanese chicken rice with boiled chicken, cucumber, and chicken broth.

Tantanmen 坦々麺

📍Jakarta

Japanese ramen dish with a creamy and savoury broth, sliced pork, cabbage, carrot, corn, bean sprouts, and spring onion.

Cai png 菜饭

📍Singapore

A plate of white or brown rice and (usually 3) side dishes from a selection of vegetable and meat dishes. Pictured are my 3 favourite "vegetable" dishes: kangkong (water spinach), tomato egg, and bitter gourd with egg.

Nasi "Padang"

📍Singapore

Despite the name, most stalls in Singapore sell Nasi Campur. White rice with ayam bakar (grilled chicken) and ayam penyet (smashed fried chicken) tahu goreng (fried tofu), lalapan, sambal, and sides of perkedel (mashed potato fritters) and telur dadar (egg omelette).

Tomato and spinach ee mee (番茄肉碎苋菜伊面)

📍Singapore

Flat Cantonese egg noodles made from wheat flour in a tomato based broth with lots of spinach, minced pork, and dropped egg.

Durian - Mao Shan Wang Variety

📍Singapore

Soft, creamy and sweet fruit with a custard-like taste and texture. Durian's flavour profile has very subtle hints of alcohol and chives (I'm really not trying to put you off...) and is best refrigerated.

Homemade dinner spread #1

Stir-fried bok choy in oyster sauce, stir fried cabbage and carrot with bee hoon, steamed chicken with goji berries and ginger, and fried pork mince omelette. Served with red rice.

Hotpot

Tomato and Japanese pork bone soup bases with sliced beef and pork, Chinese sausage, thick handcut noodles, instant noodles, bee hoon, cabbage, mushrooms, bok choy, corn, soft and fried tofu, beancurd skin, and imitation crab.

Chicken curry with potato, carrot, and eggplant, grilled salmon steaks, steamed broccoli, and potato salad with boiled egg, onion, carrot and cucumber.

Toast with blueberry jam

Assembled using two nostalgic staples: Gardenia's Hokkaido Milk Bread and St Dalfour's blueberry fruit spread.

Chicken katsu (チキンカツ)

Crispy chicken katsu with shredded cabbage and lemon, white rice, a bowl of miso soup, and pickled daikon.

Homemade dinner spread #3

Steamed corn on a cob, stir-fried beef liver with scallions and ginger, garlic stir-fried bok choy and carrots, and kimchi stir-fry with enoki mushrooms, onion and thinly sliced pork (the type in butadon). Served with red rice.

Grilled chicken chop

📍Singapore

Served with a side of thai papaya salad, vinegarette cherry tomatoes, BBQ ranch, and a brioche roll.
